Emily Devereux

I AM HUMAN

In the modern world, we face a constant flow of online activity, which we could see as connectivity .However, this connection is a seperation of physical and pure emotional connection. We are questioning our ‘identity’, modern technology and surveilance and therfore the relationship we have with ourselves (and others).

Bioplastic for Breakfast

Within the last
decade, there has been a growing

urgency to address sustainability concerns,

particularly regarding the environmental impacts of

traditional manufacturing processes and materials.

Within this context, bioplastics have emerged as a

promising alternative, derived from renewable

biomass sources such as glycerine and starch,

offering potential solutions to the ecological

challenges posed by plastics.

The integration of bioplastics into furniture design

presents a compelling narrative, an opportunity to

reshape domestic spaces and influence the future of

design and waste management. This intersection

offers profound implications for both environmental

sustainability and aesthetic innovation.

Bioplastics are 100% bio-degradable and a circular

product due to their Biomass. This offers the potential

to create a circular system where the materials can

be sourced, produced, and reused.

The priority is accessibility towards this full circle

movement of furniture resulting in taking back

ownership of the energy and life cycle of furniture

within private domestic spaces. The production cycle

should be able to be completed within a domestic

space not only creating a memorable moment by

building it yourself but also a durable piece of

furniture which can accommodate everyday life.

LET’S HAVE A BALL!

Experience the radiance of creativity with the Artificial Sun installation, a captivating blend of glowing fabric and vibrant orange light fixtures. Programmed to illuminate Schieblock's surroundings upon entry, this installation is a fusion of art and technology. The project delves into the profound impact of sunlight exposure and color on creativity within the realm of future city development.
The Artificial Sun serves as the focal point in an exploration of the interplay between natural light, color utilization, and outdoor spaces, particularly within the context of Schieblock.
As an art student at Willem de Kooning, Emily Devereux's research project scrutinizes the role of light exposure and its influence on creative dynamics, echoing the urgency to innovate in evolving urban environments.
Guided by the research question, "What is the relationship between (Sun)light exposure and creativity, in the context of future developments, and how can I highlight creative community dynamics?" this installation invites viewers to contemplate the transformative potential of light in shaping sustainable and innovative urban futures.

migraine
.
Humans depend on our natrual hormone production. This project is made, especially for woman, to increase and become more aware of our dopamine and serotonin levels. While woman experience an increase and mostly decrease during ovulation cycle, natrual pain such as headaches and migraines occur. The colour and movement is a representation of this hormonal process, as well as a reminder to make sure natural production enforcement is present. I used self developed research data to programme (with Thouchdesigner) these ‘Data sequences’allowing other woman to see the how connected our cycles are and showing the importance of natural representation.
